From thrillers to documentaries, there’s plenty to sink your teeth into on Netflix this October.
Like us, you’re probably wondering where time’s gone. Summer, it seems, lasted a moment, with the cold and festivities of autumn and winter fast approaching. Fear not, though. Yes, hot boy/girl summer may have ended, with fewer nights out and about and more nights indoors – but with Netflix’s latest offering of shows and films, there’s plenty to keep you occupied.
From the scary to the entertaining, the funny to the educational – here’s what to watch on Netflix this month.
Shutter Island
Let’s face it, Leo’s a pretty good actor, meaning any film featuring his acting talents is likely to end up on a list like this. In Shutter Island, he plays a persistent detective investigating some mysteries on a remote psychiatric facility on an island. It’s a thriller with twists and turns (hint: the ending might shock you). Is it DiCaprio’s best work? No, probably not – but given the quality of his acting talents, Shutter Island‘s still a pretty good watch.
Squid Game
Squid game‘s very, very popular – and for good reason. Its astronomical rise puts it above every other non-English speaking show produced by Netflix. In the US, it’s number one – and in the UK, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more popular series. What’s the fuss about, you ask? Survival of the fittest, with added twists. It’s set in modern-day Seoul, where the less fortunate are lured into playing a game to win money. Win, or die trying, basically. It’s as entertaining as it is horrific, as funny as it is damning. Simply put, it’s a must-watch.
Sex Education
Sex Education offers the perfect balance between the educational and plain sexy, combining brilliant writing, acting and screenplay to good effect. Set in the halls and classrooms of Moordale High, the series follows a group of students, their parents, and a sex therapist as they navigate the joys, intricacies and awkwardness of sex, relationships and teenage life.
Britney v Spears
For a long time, one of America’s most loved pop stars, Britney Spears, has been on a mission to get her life back. Of late, her battle against her father to end her conservatorship has been played out in the media, giving fans a closer look at the difficult life of the star. Good timing, then, that Netflix decided to make a documentary about it all. It’s a riveting watch – so just watch it, okay?
Bad Sport
Sport brings out passion like nothing else, making it vulnerable to the temptations of greed, theft and cheating. In Bad Sport, you’re taken through some of sports most scandalous and criminal moments – from accusations of fixed matches to outside influence – and the grim consequences it has on the games we love so much.
The best part? You get firsthand accounts from those involved.
You
He’s calculating, cynical and just plain damn weird – all the ingredients for terrific television. YOU‘s popularity might say more about us (you included) than the show’s characters – but given the twists and turns, plots and characters, you’d be forgiven for binge-watching one of Netflix’s best.
Speaking of things to watch, here’s why King Richard could make Will Smith the king of the Oscars.
