“In this world, nothing can be said to be certain except death and taxes”—and an Apple frenzy every September.

September is here, which means the start of new academic terms, autumn, a change of wardrobe and for many across the world, an eagerly awaited release event from Apple. Although the iPhone 12 wasn’t to be this September, reports suggest that Apple’s highly anticipated phone will be released fairly soon – raising some questions.

Will it have 3, 4, or 5 cameras? Round or flat edges? Foldable or non-foldable? Here’s what you should know about Apple’s upcoming device:

The release date

No one knows exactly when Apple will release their latest handset, but that hasn’t stopped people making some very good (and educational) guesses. It wasn’t released at the flagship September event, which got tech experts thinking: what about October? We know the iPhone 12 is in production, and Apple’s Chief Financial Officer confirmed that the phone will come out ‘a few weeks later than usual’ – making mid-October the likely date for a release.

What will it look like?

After Samsung released their foldable Galaxy, speculation about what the iPhone 12 will look like increased. However, if you were expecting Apple to go toe-to-toe with Samsung on design, you’d be disappointed. According to reports, the phone’s design is set to follow that of the iPhone 11, but with slight changes. Round edges are out, and flat edges are in. The usual choice of six colours is also expected with the release of the new iteration.

How big will the display screen be?

Screen sizes are an important factor; we increasingly use our phones for different things, and the right screen size (not too small or too big) is needed. For the iPhone 12, the screen size is suspected to be 5.4 inches. This is larger than Apple’s previous models like the iPhone 7, but still compact – making the iPhone 12 good for on-the-go browsing, and easy to use with one hand.

Both the iPhone 12 Max and iPhone 12 Pro are rumoured to come in at 6.1 inches, offering a larger display for users. The largest display size supposedly up-for-grabs is the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which is rumoured to have a display size of 6.7 inches – making Netflix on-the-move an enjoyable experience.

What’s new with the new iPhone 12?

4G is out and 5G comes in, making downloads faster and granting stronger network readability – but that’s not all. According to reports, there’s a new camera (there always is); Apple’s latest outings are rumoured to use a high-quality, dual-camera system that supports optical zoom of x2. In other words, the camera’s very good. And for the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro Max, a triple camera is reportedly on the cards.
