Style Lessons to Learn From Jack Harlow

Style Lessons to Learn From Jack Harlow

On matters of style, Jack Harlow has a thing or two to teach all of us.

Of late, we’ve all become a little obsessed with Jack Harlow, the curly-haired 23-year-old singer. Hit songs and funny cameos aside, he’s got a pretty good sense of style, too. He’s a new age rapper, the kind that wears pink, dons tailored suits (to perfection, of course) and cares about the environment.

In an age where celebrities and influencers decide what’s cool or not, he’s carved out an image as a bonafide, easy-going style icon. Teenagers love him, adults think he’s cute, and you’re probably a fan, too – even if you choose not to admit it. And whatever your opinion on the man’s music, he knows how to garner attention, turn heads, and charm fans. Here, we lay down his style rules and lessons. For your own sake, you should follow them:

1. Double the breast, double the style

Elegant and always stylish, the double-breasted suit has long enjoyed a reputation as the epitome of men’s tailoring. At his Met Gala appearance in 2021, Harlow demonstrated why. Paired with dark shoes and a black shirt, he looked the part, managing to stick with the rules whilst illustrating his own personal flair.

The style lesson? For the next formal event, opt for a double-breasted option. When done right, it works. Clearly.

2. For versatility, choose cargos

There’s a reason most modern-day style icons and enthusiasts – from Kanye West to Timotheè Chalamet, A$ap Rocky to Rihanna – love cargos: few trousers are more versatile. For the events that blur the line between casual flair and sartorial excellence, choose cargos. For extra credit, pair them with a nice shirt, clean trainers, and carefully-chosen jewellery (drop the extra chains, fellas).

3. It’s time to step up your casual tailoring game

Long gone are the days when suits were resigned to weddings, formal events and days in the office. These days, casual tailoring does the job on just about any occasion. Perfectly depicted in the image above, it gives mere mortals a chance to inject some sartorial glamour into everyday outfits.

For beginners, swap the shirt for a nicely pressed t-shirt. For shoes, opt for white trainers (or any other simple alternative). If it works for Harlow, it’ll work for you.

4. GET YOURSELF SOME NEW BALANCES

Jack Harlow

If you haven’t heard (how’s life under the rock?) New Balance is cool again. For the stye-minded amongst us, their resurgence into modern culture is a good thing. Like other famous names, Jack Harlow’s a huge fan of the brand. Take the 550s for example, a classic and elegant choice for errands around town, dinner dates or trips to the museum.

For those with little patience (550s are notoriously hard to get), opt for the 327s. They’re innovative and classic at the same time, a difficult balance many brands struggle to strike. Plus, with the likes of Jack Harlow, Jaden Smith and Leonardo DiCaprio favouring them, you’ll be in good company.

5. Bright Colours never hurt nobody

Jack Harlow

Look, I’ll be the first to admit my preference for darker colours. They’re easier to wear, they’re more versatile – and most importantly, no one cares if you repeat them. As proven by Jack Harlow, however, there’s a place in everyone’s wardrobe for bright colours.

For your next choice, swap the navy for a bright yellow. And whilst you’re at it, why not pick a brightly coloured patterned shirt for your next outing? Don’t overdo it, though. You’re trying to impress – not get a job as the joker’s next stunt double.

6. Accesories. All the time.

Jack Harlow

You’ve probably never seen David Beckham without a watch or A$ap Rocky without a chain Like them, Jack Harlow takes accessories seriously, choosing to opt for the simple chain, a few rings and a watch. Accessories matter – a lot. It’s your chance to personalise an outfit – and gives you an opportunity to turn a simple, well-assembled outfit into one that turns heads.

True, the average purse might squirm at the price of the accessories chosen by the rich and famous, but there are plenty of cheaper options that’ll do the job.

Like Jack Harlow, Timothee Chalamet consistently turns heads. Here are the style lessons to learn from him.
