To help you breeze through this month’s cold night, we detail the best things to watch on Netflix this month.
Knowing what to watch, when endless options exist, can be hard. To help you through some quiet nights in, we’ve handpicked the best things to watch on Netflix this month:
The Swimmers
The Swimmers follows two sisters fleeing the Syrian civil war, from their home in Damascus. It is an intimate biopic that tells the stories of Yusra and Sarah Mardini, and their journey from refugees to the 2016 Rio Olympics. It’s as heartbreaking as it is inspiring – so don’t miss it when it drops on Netflix on November 23rd.
¡Que viva México!
It’s long been said deaths help bring families together – but not always in a good way. This satirical film follows Pancho, who travels to his hometown with his family after his grandfather’s death. What follows is a discussion around politics, familial relationships, and everything in between. Sure, it might not be your typical action-packed thriller – but it’s a very good film. So watch it, yeah – and thank us later.
It’s released on Netflix on November 16th.
Elite
The Spanish show about rebellious high schoolers is back. This time, with more sex, drugs, murder mysteries, and a never-ending cast of good-looking people. Sure, the doors to Las Encinas – the fictional school at the center of this series – should have been locked a long time ago, the key thrown away, and every member of staff arrested and jailed. The plot makes little sense, true – but when the cast is this hot, and the entertainment is that good, who cares?
Season 6 of Elite drops on 18th November.
The Lost Lotteries
This action comedy follows five down-on-their-luck strangers embarking on a heist to steal back their winning lottery tickets from a powerful creditor. It’s David and Goliath, but without the morality and surety that David encompasses. The trailer teases chaos and craziness, creating a lighthearted watch.
Wednesday
Jenny Ortega stars as Wednesday in this comedy-horror adaptation of The Addams family, coming to Netflix on November 23rd. If you’re still pining after the spooky aesthetic of October, this show is perfect for you. The perfect coming of age story, it follows Wednesday as she deals with the struggles of all teenage girls: grappling with her psychic powers, preventing a killing spree and investigating mysteries.
Barbarians
Season two of this historical drama focussing on the Roman occupation of Magna Germania was just released in October. Set in 9 AD, it follows the unification of Germanic tribes in response to Roman colonialism. It also explores the story of courage, friendships, and love which underpins this movement. This, with the high stakes and skillful cinematography, create a heartwarming, informative, and chair-gripping show.
Blood and Water
Blood and Water is a crime drama, following high-schooler Puleng. She sets out to investigate a lead for her missing sister, who was believed to be trafficked as a baby. It explores themes of family, friendship, and love, creating an emotional and gripping story. The show is not as predictable as you might expect; it hooks its audience with endless twists and turns. Season three releases on the 25th of November so don’t miss it!
The Crown
The Crown follows the life of Elizabeth II, and her highs and lows as she reigned. It is important to keep in mind that it does take acreative licence, as it is fictional, but it has a relatively faithful portrayal of the monarchy. This show is for anyone who loves the scandal of family drama, political and royal intrigue, or just wants an insight into the undemocratic institution that is Britain’s Royalty.
Enola Holmes 2
This film is a perfect mixture of mystery, mayhem and madness. Millie Bobby Brown returns to take on the role of Enola: the famous Sherlock Holmes’ little sister, for a performance the trailer promises will be captivating. It is the perfect lighthearted watch with family, or as a break from your daily lives.
Industry Season 2: “It’s a World Flowing With Money, Sex, and Drugs”
