What to Watch on Netflix This Month

As we enter the new year on our sofas and in our beds, we’ve put together a list of the best Netflix has to offer in January.

With another UK national lockdown in place, it looks like we’re all going to be spending a lot more time in the house – and you know what that means, even more Netflix. To ease your lockdown blues and keep you occupied for the next few weeks, we’ve put together some of the best Netflix recommendations – from thrilling series to exciting new movies – to get your new year started off right.

Lupin

Coming to Netflix on January 8, this French crime drama follows the intense life story of Assane Diop, played by the brilliant French actor Omar Sy. A teenage Assane’s life is turned upside when his father is falsely accused of a crime by a wealthy family and sentenced to death. Now an adult, he seeks revenge against the family and becomes a world-famous gentlemen thief and true master of disguise. Directed by Now You See Me director Louis Leterrier, this new crime drama is definitely one you can’t miss in 2021.

Chris Rock Total Black Out: The Tamborine Extended Cut

This new extended cut of Chris Rock’s 2018 stand-up comedy special Total Blackout is one that won’t fail to make you laugh. Coming to Netflix on the January 12, Chris Rock takes to the Australian stage at the Perth Arena with his relatable jokes, hilarious observations on fatherhood and personal life stories. Chris himself describes this extended cut as “a remixed version of the special.” With 27 minutes more hilarious stand-up content, never-heard-before jokes, new interviews and exclusive behind-the-scene footages, this Netflix release is one you’ve got to add to your watch list. If you enjoyed the 2018 release of Total Blackout, this one is going to be even better.

Tony Parker: The Final Shot

Fresh on Netflix as of January 6, this film-documentary follows the inspiring life story and career of French-American former professional basketball legend Tony Parker. With his great ambition, determination to be great and solid work ethic, Tony Parker has arguably become the world’s greatest ever French basketball player. The industry of sport, especially basketball, is highly competitive, and Tony Parker did everything in his power to excel. With narration from the basketball legend himself, behind-the-scenes exclusive clips and personal home videos, if you’re looking to be inspired and go on a journey, this is a Netflix release you’ve got to see.

Outside The Wire

The new action-packed thriller starring Anthony Mackie and Damson Idris, Outside The Wire, is set to be released on Netflix January 15 – highly anticipated by those with a real love for action. Set in the future, the film follows the story of a fearless drone pilot Thomas Harp, who is sent to a deadly military zone with Android Officer Leo by his side in the hope of locating a doomsday device. As you can imagine, this journey – navigating through a warzone – isn’t easy, and the pair are met with a lot of twists, turns and life or death dilemmas along the way. Outside The Wire is bound to become one of your action film favourites, so keep your eyes peeled on Netflix on the January 15 to catch its release.
