What to Watch on Netflix This Month

What to Watch on Netflix This Month

With spring in full swing, we pick the best films and TV shows to settle down with on Netflix this month.

With the freedom of the outdoors around the corner, we’re all eager to break free from our bedrooms, switch off the TV and close our laptops as soon as possible – and with plenty of of things to do come June 21, we might finally find ourselves escaping Netflix’s almighty grip. But given the inevitable rush to the streets – with Shoreditch and other such places packed to the brim – you may be thinking about easing yourself back into normality. Take your time, you know?

If so, then you’ll need some (more) things to watch through May. Not just any old TV show or film, mind, but ones with intriguing plots, endless twists and captivating characters. To that end, we’ve done the hard work for you. Here’s what to watch on Netflix this month:

Money, Explained

So it is, we’ve entered the holy grail of 21st century money, where teenagers collect digital coins instead of chocolate ones – and where everyone, it seems, can recite a few facts about Bitcoin, Coinbase, Dogecoin and just about every other coin that exists. To help you sort the fact from the fiction, Money, Explained puts it as simply as possible, with detailed – and mind-blowing – facts about money.

From credit cards to banks, fraudsters to student loans, these are the money lessons you were never taught.

Shadow and Bone

With popular series like Line of Duty at an end, fans of binge-worthy TV dramas with intelligent plots and fascinating characters will be looking for their next addiction. Well, if that’s you, consider Shadow and Bone, the new big-budget Netflix show about an orphan mapmaker with the power to decide the fate of her war-torn world.

Men in Black: International

Most Men in Black fans know and love the franchise for one reason: Will Smith. So, with the fresh prince of the big screen a no-show in this re-boot of the iconic film series, you may be hesitant to give this one a go. If we’re honest, though, plugging the latest instalment of the MIB franchise with household names – from Chris Hemsworth to Tessa Thompson – does well to convince you that this is worthwhile movie in its own right.

In this new adventure, it’s less of the existential threat and more of a battle to save MIB from its biggest threat yet – a mole. It’s worth some digging, at least?

The Upshaws

With 14 Emmy nominations to her name, Wanda Sykes is a bona fide comedy legend, with fans from all ages and backgrounds. In The Upshaws, a modern sitcom about a working-class family, she plays the role of a mother holding her family together with her customary humour, advice and unique view of the world.
