What to Wear This Party Season

What to Wear This Party Season

Words by Alex Taylor

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but the worst for finding something to wear. Don’t worry, we’ve got your back.

It’s that time of the year again where we reunite with Billy Mack, Wham! is on repeat, and all our money is spent on mulled wine and presents for the family dog.

What’s more, it’s that time of year again where occasions to dress somewhat nicely are at an all time high. Think Christmas parties, work dos, Friendmas meet-ups, festive meals, New Year’s Eve… the list goes on.

With all the other hustle and bustle of preparing for Christmas, we know that finding outfits for these occasions can be a bit overwhelming, often resulting in last minute flurries in the form of rushed trips to Oxford Street or calling up your mates to see if they have a spare dress.

So, if you’re one of those people who doesn’t have the time to search or simply wants a few more options on the table, we’ve got your back.

We’ve compiled some of our favourite partywear pieces this season and thrown them into three separate categories, with many coming from sustainable brands and rental platforms.

First up is ‘Red’. If you didn’t already know, red is THE colour of the season, so it felt appropriate to put it centre stage. Next is ‘Sparkles’ – as always, the festive season is all about sparkles, sequins, and metallic. And, finally, we have ‘Something a Bit Different’, for everyone who wants the wow-factor but doesn’t necessarily want to fit into a particular theme.

Red

Gina Top – Susamusa

For those who aren’t looking for a dress, we recommend Susamusa’s Gina Top for a pop of red. These tops are a staple and can be dressed up or down. For Christmas you could pair with black trousers or a mini skirt.

Casette Silk Dress – Reformation

Another silk number and we are here for it. The Casette is stylish yet comfortable and the cowl neckline is extra flattering. And if you’re not feeling the red it’s also available in many other colours.

Adele Hammered-Silk Dress – Saloni via HURR

This dress is the epitome of elegance and we love the silk material and back tie detailing – pair with black or gold accessories to finish the look.

Night to Remember Dress – Kiwi & Co

‘Business in the front, party in the back’ comes to mind. This dress is beautifully understated at first glance, but the bow adds something a bit special this festive season.

Gina Feather Dress – Taller Marmo via HURR

If you want something a little EXTRA then this is the dress for you. Made in Italy and featuring a feathery hem and cuffs, it is certainly a showstopper.

Sparkles

Slash Neck Sequin Maxi Dress – Warehouse

This is the choice for you if you want to bag yourself some head-to-toe sparkle. Simple yet stunning, this dress screams festive season and we’re adding it to our basket as we speak.

Filter Finish Long Sleeve Top – Free People

We’re obsessed with this top and the many different colours it’s available in. The sparkle is exactly what we need this festive season and it’s one of those tops that can make the ‘nice top and trousers’ combo look extra extra nice.

Silver Metallic Vienna Mini Dress – Nobody’s Child

If you prefer something more metallic than sparkly then try this dress on for size. This Vienna Dress makes a real statement with its puff sleeves and tiered skirt (it also looks super comfy, too, which is always a bonus).

Off-the-shoulder Crystal-Embel Dress – Self-Portrait via HURR

For something unique and beautifully crafted, look no further. This Self-Portrait dress is almost artistic with its fishnet detailing and hand-placed crystal embellishments.

Galaxy Skirt – Reformation

Another option for those looking for something other than a dress, the Galaxy Skirt is sparkly yet smart and features a leg slit. Pair with a black top and accessories for a sophisticated look, or add in a pop or red for that festive touch.

Something a Bit Different

Melanie Jumpsuit – Reformation

This one might be one of our favourites. We’re obsessed with the contrasting between the black material and the white strap detailing. If you want lots of people asking where your outfit is from without being overly ‘Christmassy’, this could be a contender.

Elora Knit Two Piece – Reformation

We all love a two piece so here is an extra special one for you. Plisse fabric is very hot right now and in this silver finish this set is simply a must-have. Pair with some statement earrings to complete the fit.

Nova Tie Back Dress – Omnes

Finally we have the Nova Dress by Omnes. The cut is super stylish and tasteful and our favourites of the bunch are the cobalt blue and magenta. So for those searching for a stunning dress but not so fussed about sticking to the traditional reds, greens, and golds, we recommend you check this one out.

Barbs Leopard Ruffle Dress – Damson Madder

Animal print can be Christmassy, right? Another option for those wanting something a bit different. Damson Madder is killing the game right now and the Barbs Ruffle Dress is no exception. The print is to die for and the ruffle detailing packs a unique punch.

Camille Jumpsuit – Saloni via HURR

Here is another jumpsuit option but this time it’s definitely FESTIVE. The velvet material and beaded bows add a sophisticated yet Christmassy touch. If someone rents this can they let us know if it feels like you’re wearing pyjamas? If so, we’re sold.
