Adidas X Gucci Is a Collab That Actually Works

Adidas X Gucci Is a Collab That Actually Works

Words by The Urban Journal

The two brands have created something that everyone will want.

When iconic brands get into bed, things aren’t always rosy. That’s not the case for Adidas and Gucci. Seemingly from different parts of the fashion world – the former a sports brand, the latter a luxury giant – their latest collection proves that when done well, collaborations are the way to go.

Plus, given Adidas’ recent streak of brand partnerships with luxury brands, this isn’t new territory. There was the successful marriage with fashion rebels Balenciaga, followed by the minimalist drop with luxury giant Prada. For their work with Gucci, no expense was spared.

Adidas x Gucci (or Guccidas, as some call it) is proving popular with the cool kids – and it’s easy to see why. First, there are the bags, a collection of this year’s must-have accessories. They’re expensive – but when they look that good, who cares?

The shirts and tops aren’t bad either. In fact, they’re probably the most stylish thing you can get your hands on this year (so far). The sleeveless branded cardigan, in particular,  is one to pay attention to, and the brands have managed to pay equal homage to both brands.

But for most people, the shoes are where the magic happens. For a long time, Adidas has been lacking behind bitter rivals Nike when it comes to successful collabs. Yes, there’s Yeezy – but compared to Nike’s several successful brand collabs, the German brand has found itself playing catchup. But, with the sporting giant finding its magic touch, things may well change.

In a world where collaborations have become a veil for operation rejuvenate our brand, Adidas and Gucci have created that something actually works. It’s special, a reminder that when two legendary brands come together, sparks fly.

The full Adidas x Gucci collection is can be copped at Gucci stores worldwide.
